Choosing toilet and shower blocks for campsites

Camping has been a popular low cost option for a quick break or a longer holiday for over a century. There are sites across the UK and all over the world. They can vary in terms of size and facilities. Some are very basic whereas others have a range of creature comforts like portable toilet blocks.

The history of camping is actually really interesting. People have been doing it for years, but it didn’t become a real pastime until the end of the 19th century. The first proper camp site was on the Isle of Man, opening in 1894. At the time though, camping was an all male hobby.

Popular periods

Camping soon became a really popular option for holidays. It had its first boom in the 20s and 30s. At the time people wanted to escape busy towns and cities and get out into the clean air of the countryside.

There was a second boom in the 60s. Here more people choose to camp to avoid boarding houses and to give themselves more freedom when they were on holiday. The popularity waned with the arrival of the budget hotel.

More recently, there was another growth period. During the covid pandemic a lot of people were stuck at home for the majority of their time. Camping became a really popular option so they could get out into the fresh air. Overseas travel restrictions also made it one of the only choices for people who still wanted a holiday.

Portable toilet blocks

Today approximately 1.2 million people in the UK choose to go camping on a regular basis. This includes visiting campsites here as well as travelling and staying at ones in Europe. France and Denmark are very popular European destinations.

As we said above, some campsites have a number of facilities for visitors to use. We can help with this by providing high quality portable buildings. They offer unbeatable flexibility in terms of what you can use them for and placement. In addition, they are more cost effective than building permanent structures.

If you need toilet and shower facilities, there are plenty of options here. You can choose small buildings with enough space for one or two separate toilers or showers. Or you can go for longer blocks and more facilities. There are almost unlimited options in term of layout. You can even create dressing rooms or leave space for a separate laundry room or office. You could even have one block with a central divide to create gender specific facilities.
